China: China's top trade negotiator to visit Washington after high-level talks in Canada
Storyline: China's top trade negotiator to visit Washington after high-level talks in Canada [Voice_over] China and Canada have held a new round of high-level economic talks in Ottawa, aiming to steady trade ties amid recent frictions. China’s Ministry of Commerce says Both sides agreed to strengthen communication, address trade concerns, and seek new areas for cooperation. This comes as the ministry voiced strong opposition to Canada’s latest import restrictions on Chinese steel and other products, and confirmed that a case has been filed at the World Trade Organization. The delegation will next visit Washington, where Beijing says it is ready to work with the US to keep trade relations stable, healthy and sustainable. [Sound_bite] He Yongqian, Spokesperson, China’s Ministry of Commerce: "China’s Vice Minister of Commerce and International Trade Representative Li Chenggang led a delegation to Canada from August 24th to 27th, where he co-chaired the China-Canada Joint Economic and Trade Commission with Canadian counterparts. Following the visit, Li and his team will travel to Washington to meet with US officials. China is ready to work with the US to make good use of bilateral trade consultation mechanisms, resolve issues through dialogue on an equal footing, and jointly safeguard the stable, healthy and sustainable growth of China-US economic and trade relations."
