China: Cooperation between China, SCO member states continues to advance
China's trade with Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states continues to show steady growth. In 2024, China imported nearly 90 billion U.S. dollars worth of crude oil, natural gas and coal from other SCO members, along with 13.66 billion U.S. dollars worth of agricultural products, according to the data released by the Ministry of Commerce. China exported 210 billion U.S. dollars worth of mechanical and electrical products to other member states, accounting for 63 percent of its total exports, the ministry said. Investment and industrial cooperation between China and SCO member states has also made steady progress. The SCO has agreed to protect investments. China upgraded its investment cooperation with Russia, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan in 2024, and signed a service trade and investment agreement with Belarus. As of July 2025, China's total stock of investment in SCO countries exceeded 84 billion U.S. dollars, covering traditional sectors such as oil, gas, and manufacturing, to newer areas such as the digital economy and green development, the ministry said. China has also led infrastructure cooperation projects through the SCO mechanism, including railway bridge and highway bridge on the China-Russia border. Construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, a key regional infrastructure project, has also begun. The China-Europe freight train service, which passes through most SCO nations, has already seen over 110,000 departures by June 2025, significantly bolstering regional supply chain stability. Founded in Shanghai in June 2001, the SCO has expanded from six founding members into a 26-nation family of 10 members, two observers and 14 dialogue partners spanning Asia, Europe and Africa. The largest-ever SCO annual summit takes place in Tianjin from Sunday to Monday. Shotlist: Beijing, China - Recent: FILE: Tianjin Municipality, north China - Date Unknown 1.
