Amazing Motherhood: Watch a Centipede Tend Her Eggs for 3 Months Straight!

Buy video

One of my Scolopendra species “Mint Legs” laid eggs, the entire process took roughly 4 months to fully complete. For 3 of those months, she stayed curled around them cleaning each and every egg multiple times a day, protecting them from predators, parasites, bacteria, and fungus to ensure they survive, all while sacrificing her own needs. For the entire 4 months she went without food and water, not only that but she didn’t even move or walk around! She just sat curled around her babies caring for each and every one of them. This video was taken towards the end of that time period, when the babies are preparing to leave their mother within the next few days.
