Phoenix, United States - August 31, 2025 08/31/2025 12:45 am GMT-0700 PHOENIX, Ariz. – According to Sergeant Brian Bower with the Phoenix Police Department's Public Affairs Bureau, officers responded to a call for service at a park near 20th Street and Southern Avenue at approximately 12:45 a.m. on Sunday. When officers arrived, a foot pursuit ensued involving a suspect. The suspect produced a knife, and an officer-involved shooting occurred. The Phoenix Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the suspect to a local hospital, where they were pronounced deceased. No officers were injured. The Arizona Department of Public Safety will be handling the critical incident investigation in accordance with the recent state mandate. 20th Street remained closed between Southern Avenue and Bowker Street for several hours while the investigation unfolded.
