This is the dramatic moment hundreds of delivery riders formed a convoy in tribute to a fellow driver killed during anti-government protests in Indonesia.

Footage shows the motorcade, mostly riders wearing green jackets, escorting an ambulance carrying the body of Affan Kurniawan, 21, who died after being struck by a police tactical vehicle during a demonstration in the capital Jakarta.

The online motorcycle taxi drivers departed from a funeral home in Menteng at around 9:30 am on Friday, August 30, and travelled along major roads to accompany the victim to Karet Bivak Public Cemetery.

The fatal incident occurred near the Indonesian parliament building on Thursday night as protests escalated over alleged corruption among lawmakers.

Witnesses said a police tactical truck, speeding down the highway with sirens and lights activated, collided with Affan after he stumbled while running ahead of the crowd.

Public outrage erupted amid claims that 580 members of the House of Representatives have been receiving a monthly housing allowance of 50 million rupiah (approximately 2,270 GBP) since September 2024 - nearly ten times the city's minimum wage.

Activists are calling for an end to what they describe as excessive perks given to lawmakers in addition to their regular salaries.

As of Sunday, the wave of demonstrations had spread to multiple regions across Indonesia, with at least six reported deaths linked to the unrest.
