A passenger was arrested at Heathrow Airport for allegedly assaulting a flight crew member and attempting to open the aircraft door shortly after landing.

The incident unfolded aboard a Saudia Airlines Boeing 787, which had just arrived in London from Jeddah on Thursday, August 28.

Police officers and fire crews met the plane on the tarmac following reports of the disturbance.

Reports said the traveller became involved in a heated argument with a flight attendant before allegedly striking the crew member and attempting to open the aircraft door while the plane was still taxiing.

The pilots quickly contacted emergency services, who responded before the situation could escalate any further.

Saudi Arabia's National Transport Safety Centre said: 'The flight crew responded quickly to the situation and managed to push the passenger away from the plane's door, thus ensuring the safety of all passengers.'

Footage captured on the scene shows police officers, ambulance crews, fire services, and airport ground staff surrounding the aircraft just before 1 pm local time.

Heathrow officials confirmed that airport operations continued with minimal disruption despite the incident.

The unruly passenger was taken into custody. Authorities added that coordination is ongoing between Saudia Airlines and officials as the investigation into the incident continues.
