Crew from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) rescued a stricken survey boat that was taking on water in Cornwall.

The volunteers responded to an emergency call from Falmouth Coastguard involving a 30ft ship that was in distress near Porthpean on Tuesday, August 26.

Two people were on board when the vessel reportedly struck rocks, causing it to flood despite the use of onboard pumps.

Fowey RNLI's volunteer team received the tasking request around 9:14 am. The Atlantic 85 lifeboat was quickly prepared, including loading the salvage pump.

Jan Philp said the lifeboat launched at 9:25 am and reached the stranded boat off Crinnis Beach within 10 minutes.

Rescue personnel Will Maher and Ross Jezard transferred to the survey boat to assess the situation, bringing the lifeboat's salvage pump with them.

Once the flooding was controlled, the lifeboat escorted the damaged vessel back to Fowey.

Upon arrival, the boat was immediately lifted out at Polruan for damage inspection.

The RNLI saves lives at sea through its 24-hour search and rescue services around the UK and Ireland. With 238 lifeboat stations and over 240 lifeguard units across the UK and the Channel Islands, its volunteers are dedicated to maritime safety.
