A 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan on Sunday night, killing over 800 people and injuring 2,500, with the toll expected to rise. The epicenter was near Jalalabad, but most destruction occurred in Kunar Province, where dozens of villages with mud and brick houses were hit. The quake was shallow, increasing its destructive power.

Shaking was also felt in Afghanistan's capital Kabul and in neighboring Pakistan.
