ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. — Two bystanders rescued a rideshare driver after the vehicle accidentally drove into Morgan Creek from the Isle of Palms Marina parking lot Saturday night, police said.

The incident occurred just after 9 p.m. Aug. 23. The driver was pulled from the car before it submerged and was later taken to a hospital with minor injuries, according to the Isle of Palms Police Department.

Police and fire crews responded to the scene, and the U.S. Coast Guard was notified. Officials reported no environmental impact.

“This incident underscores the dangers of driving during severe weather conditions, including heavy rain and flooding, particularly at night,” Police Chief Kevin Cornett said.

Authorities praised the two men whose quick actions saved the driver, emphasizing the importance of remaining calm and knowing how to escape if a vehicle becomes submerged.
