Frantic snorkeller swims away as whale shark tries to swallow her
This is the dramatic moment a frantic snorkeller swam away while a whale shark appeared to try to swallow her.
Jem Berroya was swimming when she noticed the sea creature approaching from behind in Cebu, the Philippines.
The whale shark can be seen bumping into her with its mouth open during feeding time on August 3.
Feeling the animal touch her arm, she immediately paddled away, terrified it might harm her.
Jem said: 'I was so scared. I thought it wanted to eat my arm.'
Whale sharks are known for their gentle nature.
Despite the terrifyingly large jaws, they are filter feeders, mainly consuming plankton and small fish.
They are generally curious and non-aggressive toward people, often approaching divers and snorkelers without causing harm.
