A crane collapsed in China, leaving at least five construction workers dead.

The equipment suffered a structural failure during the dismantling of the crane at a site in Chenghua District, Chengdu, operated by the China Railway 22nd Bureau Group, a subsidiary of the state-owned China Railway Group.

One worker was pronounced dead at the scene, while four others died in the hospital on Monday morning, September 1.

Footage from the site shows a yellow tower crane with its top section severely damaged and twisted, with debris scattered across the area.

The construction site has been sealed off, and both recovery efforts and an official investigation into the cause of the collapse are underway.

Local media reported that this marks the third serious incident this year linked to a project undertaken by a subsidiary of the China Railway Group.
