This is the dramatic moment waves crashed onto the deck of a tanker ship as it navigated tropical waters.

Footage captured by DJ Baniasia shows the swells hitting the bulk liquid ship near Sibuyan Island in Romblon, the Philippines.

The surging waters can be seen flooding the deck with the choppy ocean subtly rocking the vessel on July 30.

DJ said: 'We came from Bacolod and were headed to Calaca, Batangas to dock.'

The region is generally surrounded by tropical waters that are relatively calm for most of the year, but it can experience rough seas during the monsoon season from June to November and during tropical storms.

The Sibuyan Sea is often affected by storms forming in the Pacific, which can create large waves.
