This is the heartwarming moment a clever resident used a kitten to call its mother back home.

Aisha Nicolle Caayao had to grab one of the newborn kittens to capture the attention of Toffee Copperclaw, the mixed Persian-Siamese mother cat, in Bulacan, Philippines.

Footage shows the small tabby crying while being held by Aisha on August 12.

She then stood in front of the window and extended the kitten so Toffee could see it.

Moments later, the alerted mother cat turned around, briefly stared at Aisha, and then jumped through the window to tend to her baby.

Aisha said: 'I used the kitten to call our mama cat. She had been missing since that morning, and the kittens were very hungry. I kept calling her, but she wasn't responding or paying attention. So, I used her baby to make her hear the cry, and it worked.'

Toffee was adopted by Aisha and her boyfriend, Joshua, from their neighbour.

She recalled that the cat often roams the area and had recently given birth to three kittens.
