Three schoolboys were rescued after being found clinging to a tree to survive as floods swept through parts of Thailand.

The youngsters were in a group of four who had been walking around to observe the rising waters in Lom Sak, Phetchabun, on the afternoon of Monday, September 1.

While returning, they attempted to cross a rice field behind Sirin Christian School, unaware that a canal ran through the area.

The strong current swept them away for several hundred metres before three of them managed to climb onto a tree and take shelter in its branches.

One of the boys bravely swam against the current to seek help for his stranded friends.

A rescue team, which happened to be distributing aid nearby, responded quickly and assisted the distressed boys.

Footage shows emergency responders in a boat approaching the trio, who were perched on a partially submerged tree.

Rescuers reported that the floodwater in the rice field was approximately 6.6ft (2m) deep.

The Thai Meteorological Department on Sunday said that Tropical Storm Nongfah had weakened into a strong low-pressure system moving into northern Thailand.

Combined with an intensifying southwest monsoon, the weather system is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall across 43 provinces over the next one to two days.

Authorities warned residents to constantly monitor weather updates.
