A 1-year-old Palestinian baby is fighting for his life due to severe malnutrition amid Israel’s blockade of Gaza, which has left many children without adequate food or medical care, hospital officials said.
The boy, Ali Abu Azire, is receiving limited care at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis. His mother, Itimad, said he suffers from rashes, diarrhoea, high fever and calcium deficiency in addition to malnutrition.

AHMED AL-FERRA, HEAD OF THE PEDIATRICS DEPARTMENT AT NASSER HOSPITAL SPEAKING TO REPORTER (Arabic)KHAN YOUNIS, PALESTINE - SEPT. 1: A 1.5-year-old Palestinian baby is fighting for his life due to severe malnutrition amid Israel’s blockade of Gaza, which has left many children without adequate food or medical care, hospital officials said. The boy, Ali Abu Azire, is receiving limited care at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis. His mother, Itimad, said he suffers from rashes, diarrhea, high fever and calcium deficiency in addition to malnutrition. Although the ideal weight for his age is about 10 kilograms (22 pounds), Ali’s weight has dropped to just 3 kilograms (6.6 pounds). “Last week he weighed 4 kilograms; this week he dropped to 3. Every other day, he loses weight,” his mother said. Ali is among many children in Gaza suffering from what aid groups describe as a deepening hunger crisis under the blockade. Israel has killed more than 63,500 Palestinians in Gaza since October 2023. The military campaign has devastated the enclave, which is facing famine. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave. Writing by Ayse Elif Erdis
