China: China sees boom in overseas demand for doll clothing
Storyline: China sees boom in overseas demand for doll clothing [Voice_over] At China’s Yiwu City, known as the world’s largest small commodities hub, stalls that sell doll clothes, like this one, have been busy lately. The trend of dressing up plushie anime dolls is gaining popularity with young people not just in China, but across Asia and the west. From delicate lace dresses to flared woolen coats, dozens of trendy doll items are on offer. [Sound_bite] Yang Jinhua, vendor, Yiwu International Trade Market: "Sales of doll clothing have grown rapidly in recent months. This was primarily driven by a surge in demand from Southeast Asia, Japan, and South Korea, where sales have at least tripled. To meet this demand, we have doubled the size of our factory's workforce." [Voice_over] In another store, a live streamer is selling products on an overseas platform. The head of one doll clothing company, who just returned from visiting clients in South Korea, said orders are surging. [Sound_bite] Gu Huijie, head, baby clothing company: "We regularly receive bulk orders from overseas customers for hundreds of thousands of items. Since operations resumed in February, our sales volume has seen a 100 percent increase, a growth largely attributable to our export business." [Voice_over] Data shows that the global collectible toy market is expected to be valued at about 52 billion U.S. dollars by the end of the year. [Restrictions : No access Chinese mainland]
