Footage from Khan Younis shows Palestinian civilians being treated on sponge mattresses inside tents, as Nasser Hospital has run out of beds.

According to Gaza’s Government Media Office, at least 38 hospitals and 96 health centers have been bombed, destroyed, or forced out of service. Only a handful of facilities, including Al-Ahli Baptist, Al-Shifa, and Al-Aqsa Martyrs hospitals remain partially functional across northern, central, and southern Gaza.

These hospitals are vital for Palestinians but are functioning beyond their intended capacity.

At Nasser Hospital, hit by Israeli strikes on Aug. 25, the surge of wounded has exceeded the facility’s capacity. Dozens of patients arrive each day, with many treated in tents outside because no beds are available.

Inside the tents, the injured rest in crowded conditions on sponge mattresses placed directly on the cold stone floor.

Rami Hassan, one of the patients lying on the ground, said he was shot in the leg while trying to collect aid from a US-Israel-backed distribution point that was struck in an attack.

Israel has killed nearly 63,500 Palestinians in Gaza since October 2023. The military campaign has devastated the enclave, which is facing famine.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
