This is the dramatic moment an electric fan was engulfed by flames as residents slept.

Angeline Balangue, her husband and her children were resting in the middle of the night when the stand fan suddenly burst into flames in Manila, the Philippines.

CCTV footage shows the burning appliance spewing sparks and smoke from its overheated motor on August 28.

Angeline's husband woke to the grinding noise and immediately stood up, frantically calling his wife while grabbing the two-year-old toddler sleeping beside him.

He then ran outside, alarming his other child and his father-in-law.

Angeline said: 'No one was hurt from the incident and the fire was immediately extinguished.'

Electric appliances can overheat due to faulty wiring, poor ventilation, or overworked motors, which may lead to dangerous fires.
