US: PETA Vegan Ice Cream Giveaway Sparks Explosive Food Truck Clash in New York
New York, United States - August 29, 2025 Chaos erupted today as PETA’s “I Scream for Vegan Ice Cream” truck handed out dairy-free ice cream, sparking a fierce confrontation with rival food vendors. The PETA truck, stationed at 49th Street and 6th Avenue, drew eager crowds of locals and tourists. But one ice cream vendor reacted aggressively, reportedly marshaling other trucks and carts to block PETA’s vehicle, running over a staff member’s foot, and knocking over supplies. Staff members were even shoved during the altercation. Despite the harassment, PETA’s team continued the giveaway, with children and adults lining up for cow-friendly treats. The vendor warned, “Wherever you move, we’ll follow you,” but the initiative pressed on, planning stops at Times Square, the Museum of Ice Cream, Coney Island, and Central Park over the holiday weekend. “Many of New York City’s food carts are dishing up the same old meat-and-dairy-laden dishes, even as restaurants, bodegas, pizza places, and coffee shops have added a plethora of delicious vegan options,” said PETA President Tracy Reiman. “PETA encourages anyone who feels threatened by a vegan ice cream giveaway to take a look at their own menus, add some vegan choices, and watch their lines stretch like ours did earlier today.” The PETA truck is part of a nationwide U.S. tour, distributing thousands of dairy-free treats to highlight cruelty-free desserts and encourage ice cream parlors and patrons to embrace vegan options.
