Tourist panics while stuck in Vietnam jungle tunnels that helped defeat the US
This is the amusing moment a tourist panicked while stuck in Vietnam jungle tunnels that helped defeat the US.
Sherlene Tulda squeezed into the narrow entrance of the Cu Chi Tunnels and struggled to move through the tight passage.
Footage shows her placing dried leaves on the wooden cover while inside the small channel on August 28 in Ho Chi Minh City, or Saigon as it was known during the conflict.
She bent her knees to fully enter the tunnel, the lid overhead concealing her inside the passage.
The frantic holidaymaker suddenly stood up but found it difficult to straighten her legs, causing her to shake briefly.
Sherlene then dropped the cover, scattering leaves across the ground, and braced herself with her arms.
She managed to lift herself up, grimacing from shoulder pain while laughing from what happened.
The Cu Chi Tunnels are hidden passageways that were used by Viet Cong fighters during the Vietnam War against the United States.
Originally started in the 1940s, the underground labyrinth was expanded with living quarters, kitchens, hospitals, and even weapons storage, eventually creating some 250 miles of tunnels.
The guerrilla fighters used the network to launch surprise attacks, ambush convoys, and evade airstrikes, making them a vital lifeline and strategic advantage.
The Vietnam War officially ended on April 30, 1975, after Americans gradually withdrew following the Paris Peace Accords in 1973, with North Vietnam emerging victorious and South Vietnam falling.
