VIDEO INTERVIEW WITH TESS INGRAM, MIDDLE EAST AND NORTH AFRICA (MENA) COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER AT UNITED NATIONS INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S EMERGENCY FUND (UNICEF)GAZA, PALESTINE - SEPTEMBER 3: There is a risk of the confirmed famine in Gaza spreading and the situation in the area where families are struggling to find food for their children as “a complete disaster,” said Tess Ingram, Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Communications Manager at United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), on Wednesday, Sept. 3. Located in the Gaza City, where the Israeli army has activated its occupation plan, Ingram spoke about the latest situation in the Gaza Strip, the ongoing famine, and its impact on children. Ingram said that due to increasing Israeli military activity in Gaza, hospital officials in the area have told her that the number of children arriving with broken bones, burns, and other injuries from explosives has increased. Ingram noted that many people in Gaza are considering moving to the southern part of the Gaza Strip, but the situation there is reportedly the same. Ingram added that people know there is insufficient food, water, living space, and tents in the south, and that the bombardments will continue there as well. Ingram pointed out that the overall situation has not changed or improved since August 22, when the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), supported by the United Nations (UN), confirmed famine in Gaza. She warned that if the famine situation does not change, there is a risk it could spread to the central parts of the Gaza Strip within a few weeks. The Israeli army has launched a brutal military offensive on the Gaza Strip, killing more than 63,600 Palestinians in Gaza. The military campaign has devastated the enclave, which is facing famine. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
