A shopping mall basement in Singapore flooded after a sprinkler pipe burst, prompting an emergency response and disrupting tenants.

Footage shows murky brown water flooding part of City Square Mall on September 3, forcing diners to flee their tables as it pooled across the restaurant floor.

A spokesman for the establishment said the incident occurred at around 7:40 pm.

He added: 'Within minutes, the operations and security teams began redirecting traffic from the affected area while the cleaning team was activated to begin clearing the affected area.

'Our operations team deployed to the area identified the source to be a dislodged sprinkler pipe, and the related pump was promptly deactivated.'

Authorities said the flooding also reached the underpass leading to Farrer Park MRT station.

SBS Transit spokesman Grace Wu said: 'Our train service and station operations were not affected except for an escalator that was shut down as a safety precaution.'

The cause of the burst pipe is still under investigation as repair works continue.
