A British woman who gave birth in her car in Mexico after "one big push" said her mum came to rescue and "caught" her baby. "

Emily Smith, 27, was full term when she went into labour on 15 May 2025,  at her home in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, where she lives with partner, Stephen Spanias, 41, and their daughter Phoenix, two.

The mum-of-two, who moved to Mexico from Cambridge, UK, in January 2023, for work, recalls how her contractions began to "intensify rapidly"."

They rushed to Salud Primal Clinic, Playa del Carmen, along with Emily's mum, Jane Smith, 60, who was visiting at the time.

Two minutes into the journey, Emily's water broke, and Stephen pulled over the car and ran to open the door with Jane by his side.

With "one big push" their little boy Noah Daniel Smith arrived at 4.25 pm on 15 May 2025- caught just in time by Jane."

The trio made the remaining eight-minute drive to the clinic, where "shocked" medics and midwives were waiting outside after Stephen had left "frantic" voicemails."

After checking Emily and Noah over, medics confirmed all was well and the tot weighed 8lbs 5oz.

The pair were discharged later that day, and Noah, now three months, is "adorable" and "thriving"."

Emily, a full-time mum, originally from Ramsey, Cambridgeshire, said: "I first felt my contractions at 1 pm and by 4 pm they had intensified."

"We made our way to the clinic, but everything happened so quickly."

"I was in the backseat with my mum holding my hand for support when my waters broke."

"Stephen was panicking, and I barely got my denim shorts off."

"Thankfully, my mum remained calm for all three of us. "

"One big push and he was here - my mum caught him in her arms."

"We were eager to get Noah checked over once we got to the clinic, but as soon as they confirmed all was well, I relaxed."

"On arrival, the medics were just as shocked as us."

"I still can't believe how it all happened."

"Noah's adorable and so relaxed considering how swiftly he came into the world."

Emily and her partner of nine years, Stephen, a business owner from London, moved to Playa del Carmen, Mexico, in 2023, with their daughter, Phoenix, two.

After a normal pregnancy with their second child, by 15 May 2025, Emily was full-term.

She started experiencing contractions at 1 pm and by 4 pm they had quickly "intensified". "

Emily, Stephen and her mum, Jane, who works in healthcare in the UK, made their way to Salud Primal Clinic, Playa del Carmen, whilst Phoenix remained at home with the nanny.

Very close, extended her stay, was going to be there for

"I had a labour bag packed and everything," Emily said."

"But two minutes into the car journey, my waters broke on the back seat."

"Stephen frantically called the clinic to update them."

"I barely unbuttoned my shorts when I realised that our baby boy was on his way."

"Giving all I could, I had one big push, and he shot out."

"I was so pleased that my mum was there- even more so with how quickly things happened. She kept me and Stephen calm. "

"My mum caught him, and Stephen quickly drove to the clinic as Noah was still attached to me."

Medics were waiting for the family and swiftly gave Emily and little Noah the all clear.

The family spent five hours at the clinic receiving immediate care and returned home later that evening, where Noah has gone "from strength to strength"."

Speaking now, Emily said:" He's the perfect addition to our brood."

"Phoenix loves her baby brother."

"Considering his speedy arrival into this world, he's a very laid-back baby."

"Here's hoping that if Stephen and I have any more children, we'll be able to stick to the birth plan!"
