September 04, 2025 The Global Sumud Flotilla has begun its voyage across the Mediterranean in a bid to challenge Israel’s blockade of Gaza, organizers said on Thursday. Additional vessels are expected to join the convoy en route. The flotilla, organized by an international coalition of activists, is carrying humanitarian supplies and aims to draw attention to the humanitarian impact of the 17-year blockade on the Palestinian enclave. Israel has maintained tight land, air and sea controls over Gaza since 2007, citing security concerns from the Hamas-led authority in the territory. Previous attempts by international flotillas to reach Gaza by sea have been intercepted by Israeli naval forces. Organizers said they expect similar resistance but insist their mission is peaceful.
