Tourists delighted by traditional Chinese mask dancer in restaurant
This is the amusing moment a group of delighted tourists were captivated by a traditional Chinese mask dancer at a restaurant.
Footage shows the artist, dressed in a black traditional Chinese costume, theatrically moving in front of the lively diners at Haidilao hotpot restaurant in British Columbia, Canada.
The guests can be seen cheering each time the masks changed on September 2.
The performer even shakes hands with them as part of the act and dramatically sways his yellow hand fan, accompanied by instrumental music in the background.
Other diners watch as the energetic audience eagerly anticipates each new mask.
At the end of the performance, the entertainer signalled for the audience to stand and clap, waiting for him to reveal his face.
Moments later, the artist lifted his hands to remove the white mask, unveiling his identity.
A face-changing performer is an artist skilled in Bian Lian, an ancient art form associated with Sichuan opera. This technique involves rapidly changing masks to reveal different faces, often representing various emotions or characters.
This art form is highly respected and traditionally considered a closely guarded secret, passed down within families or from masters to chosen apprentices.
