China: Residents in Macao find patriotic inspiration in V-Day commemorations

Residents in Macao said they will continue to carry forward the great spirit of the resistance war against Japanese aggression, after watching the live TV broadcast of the commemorations held in Beijing on Wednesday to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. A grand military parade was held in central Beijing on Wednesday morning as part of the commemoration activities. In the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), representatives from all walks of life gathered to watch the live broadcast of the commemorations. They said they will continue to carry forward the great spirit forged in the war of resistance against Japanese aggression, striving in unity for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. "President Xi Jinping's important speech profoundly expounded on the great spirit forged in the resistance war, highlighted the Chinese nation's core value of advocating peace, and demonstrated China's unwavering confidence in adhering to the path of peaceful development in its modernization drive. It further enhances people's sense of pride for the country and the Chinese nation. We will carry forward the great spirit forged in the war of resistance against Japanese aggression," said Ho Sut Heng, president of Macao Federation of Trade Unions. "I'm excited to watch the live TV broadcast of the grand military parade today. President Xi Jinping said in his speech that we should inherit and promote the great spirit of the war of resistance against Japanese aggression, forge ahead with determination and courage. For us young people in Macao, this means we should carry forward the revolutionary traditions and heritage, be innovative, and get ready to explore and make breakthroughs, so as to seize opportunities during the country's development," said Cheong Ka Man, deputy director of Macao Youth Development Services Center. "General secretary Xi Jinping said that the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is unstoppable and humanity's cause of peace and development will prevail. We will firmly follow the call of the country, adhere to the path of peaceful development, learn from history, carry forward the spirit of the resistance war against Japanese aggression, and continue to guide youths in Macao to leverage the unique advantages of 'one country, two systems' to contribute our strength to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation," said Cheng Ka Man, director of Youth Committee of Macao Federation of Trade Unions. "Today's massive military parade enables me to see China's military and technological strength. I'm very proud of it," said Lam Tin Si, student of Hou Kong Middle School.
