11. AMBULANCES AND MEN AT HOSPITAL YARD DEIR AL-BALAH, GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - SEPTEMBER 4: Several Palestinians were killed and injured on Thursday evening following an Israeli airstrike that targeted a tent sheltering displaced individuals in the central Gaza city of Deir al-Balah, according to local sources.

Eyewitnesses reported that the tent, which was home to families who had recently fled Gaza City due to heavy bombardment, was directly hit by Israeli missiles. The attack resulted in casualties among women and children.

Over the past few days, dozens of families have relocated from Gaza City to Deir al-Balah, seeking refuge from the intensified Israeli military operations. However, the strike reportedly reached even the makeshift shelters where they had taken cover.

The incident has sparked widespread grief and anger among displaced communities already facing dire humanitarian conditions. Residents in the area say there are growing concerns that no location in the Gaza Strip can be considered safe.

This attack comes amid an escalation of Israeli air raids across central and southern parts of the enclave. According to Palestinian health authorities, at least 62 people have been killed across the Gaza Strip since dawn on Thursday, with entire families reported to have been wiped out in the bombardment of residential areas and displacement camps.

The Israeli military launched its offensive on the Gaza Strip in October 2023. Since then, over 64,200 Palestinians have been killed, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health. The prolonged military campaign has caused widespread destruction and a worsening humanitarian crisis, with parts of the enclave reportedly on the brink of famine.

In November 2024, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Separately, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) is currently hearing a case brought by South Africa accusing Israel of genocide in its military campaign against the Gaza Strip.
