EAGAN, Minn. — Eagan police used a newly deployed Grappler device to end a vehicle pursuit safely over the weekend, marking the first such use in Minnesota.

The chase began around 3:29 p.m. Aug. 30 when officers attempted to stop a Toyota Tundra towing a U-Haul trailer after it ran a red light at Yankee Doodle Road and Denmark Avenue. The female driver refused to stop, leading officers into St. Paul.

Near Otto Avenue and Shepard Road, an Eagan police Chevy Tahoe equipped with the Grappler took over the pursuit. As the suspect slowed for a turn, officers successfully deployed the device, which entangles a vehicle’s rear tire and axle to bring it to a controlled stop.

The woman fled on foot but was quickly apprehended. She faces charges including fleeing police in a motor vehicle, fleeing on foot, driving after revocation, no proof of insurance and failure to obey a traffic control device.
