ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew medevaced a cruise ship passenger experiencing cardiac arrest symptoms off the coast of North Carolina, officials said.

The MH-60 Jayhawk aircrew from Air Station Elizabeth City responded Sept. 1 after the Carnival Sunshine requested assistance while at sea.

The passenger was airlifted and transferred to a higher level of care in Norfolk, Virginia. Officials said the quick response ensured the individual received advanced medical treatment as soon as possible.
