Australia's Great Barrier Reef stuns passing ship crew with its unique colour
Australia's Great Barrier Reef stunned passing ship crew members with its unique colors.
Jessebelle Maddalena Sulayao was about to start her deck work when she noticed the breathtaking view of two distinct hues splitting the ocean on July 4.
Footage shows the vessel on the side of the greenish water, while the other side displayed a deep blue hue from the tropical ocean waters.
Jessebelle said: 'It was such an awe-inspiring moment, and I had to stop for a while just to take it in before getting back to work. Being at sea, you get used to endless water around you, but sometimes nature surprises you with something extraordinary, and this was one of those unforgettable experiences.
'Seeing the two-colored ocean reminded me that the sea always has mysteries waiting to be discovered. It made me realize how small we are compared to nature, and yet how lucky we are to witness its wonders.
'The ocean has a thousand moods, but every shade tells a story—calm, wild, or in between. That day, it told me that beauty can exist in contrast.'
This sea phenomenon occurs when freshwater from rivers, carrying sediment, flows into the ocean and meets denser seawater.
The lighter-colored freshwater temporarily floats on top of the saltwater, creating a visible contrast that is enhanced by the suspended sediments. Over time, the two layers gradually mix as they spread further into the sea.
