Storyline: 122-year-old Tsingtao Beer Factory attracts visitors with immersive tours [Voice_over] The Tsingtao Beer Factory and Museum in east China's Qingdao has become an example of China's larger effort to develop its industrial tourism sector. On one recent day, crowds packed into the 122-year-old facility to participate in one of many activities including a tour of the automated brewing process. In 2021, the facility was designated a "lighthouse factory" for its adoption of cutting-edge technology and smart manufacturing. [Sound_bite] Sun Ji, Director, Tsingtao Beer Museum: "You can find history and culture on Industry 1.0. You can also find the most advanced production line on Industry 4.0. Since the museum opens to the public, we have received over 15 million visitors. This summer, the number of visitors increased by 30 to 40 percent." [Voice_over] One of the most popular attractions at the museum is participating in an immersive theatre performance about the factory's history. Although, organizers say tickets are usually sold-out. [Sound_bite] Du Cancan, tourist: "I played this game and learned something about beer. After the game, I get a glass of beer. It's amazing." [Voice_over] And perhaps the best part of the tour, are the free samples. Some visitors say the chance to drink a glass of raw beer, which is produced on the same day, is the main draw. [Sound_bite] Shang, Tourist: "I came here specifically for this reason. Actually, I bought the ticket just to try the beer. I learned about the history of Tsingtao Beer, which is very long, and what makes it taste so good." [Voice_over] Other popular industrial tours in China include the plant of electric vehicle maker Xiaomi in Beijing. Obtaining a slot to visit that lighthouse factory is so difficult that it's been compared to getting a ticket for a Taylor Swift concert. [Restrictions : No access Chinese mainland]
