Bodies of helicopter crash victims removed from Indonesian jungle
The bodies of all eight passengers who died in a helicopter crash have been collected from a jungle in Indonesia.
Search and rescue teams today recovered the casualties of the ill-fated flight in a dense forest in South Kalimantan.
Authorities said some bodies were found in an 'incomplete condition', and were taken to the Bhayangkara Hoegeng Imam Santoso Hospital for identification.
Yudhi Bramantyo, operational director of the National Search and Rescue Agency, said: 'What is clear is that we have collected all the bodies there.
'Not all bodies have reached the command post yet. The teams on the ground are facing difficulties due to rough terrain and rainy weather. It can't be done quickly.
'Please be patient. All the bodies have been found. One body bag already reached the post earlier, the rest are still being evacuated from deep inside the forest. Everything must be completed today, no matter what time.'
One body was recovered on Wednesday, flung some 100 metres from the charred aircraft.
Officers had to dismantle the fallen helicopter to reach the other victims inside the cabin.
The Airbus MBB BK117 D-3 (H145) helicopter, operated by Eastindo Air, lost contact just eight minutes after departing Gusti Sjamsir Alam Airport in Kotabaru on Monday. The aircraft, carrying eight people, was en route to Palangka Raya in Central Kalimantan.
Officials said there were three foreign nationals on board. They were identified as American citizen Mark Werren, Indian national Santya Kumar, and Brazilian passenger Claudine Quito.
More than 200 personnel were deployed to scour the 10-square-mile stretch of forest in Mantewe. Ground teams were dispatched to aid in recovery efforts after the helicopter was found.
