DEAD BODIES WRAPPED IN BURIAL SHROUDS LYING ON GROUND GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - SEPTEMBER 5: Palestinians in Gaza held emotional funeral prayers on Friday, Sept. 5, for loved ones killed in the latest Israeli attacks, as the army expanded its control over Gaza City and the humanitarian situation continued to deteriorate. Funeral prayers were held in the courtyard of Al-Shifa Hospital, where grieving families gathered around the bodies of the deceased. Eyewitnesses and medical sources told Anadolu that Israeli strikes targeted homes, residential apartments, and tents for displaced persons in various neighborhoods of Gaza City, which is experiencing one of its most violent phases of the conflict. The Israeli army claimed it now controls 40 percent of Gaza City. Its expanded assault on residential areas and displacement camps has been described by the UN children’s fund (UNICEF) as “unthinkable.” At least 64,300 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip since October 2023, as three more people died of starvation in the enclave, the Health Ministry said on Friday. A ministry statement said that 69 bodies were brought to hospitals in the last 24 hours, while 422 people were injured, taking the number of injuries to 162,005 in the Israeli onslaught. “Many victims are still trapped under the rubble and on the roads as rescuers are unable to reach them,” it added. The ministry also noted that six Palestinians were killed and over 190 others injured by Israeli army fire while trying to get humanitarian aid in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of Palestinians killed while seeking aid to 2,362, with over 17,434 others wounded since May 27. The ministry said that three more Palestinians died of malnutrition and starvation in the last 24 hours. This brought the famine-linked death toll since October 2023 to 376 people, including 134 children. Since March 2, Israeli authorities have completely closed all Gaza border crossings, pushing the territory’s 2.4 million population into famine.
