US, Los Angeles: Jurupa Valley Brush Fire Near Pyrite Street Forces Evacuations
Los Angeles, United States - September 06, 2025 09/05/2025 05:19 pm GMT-0700 JURUPA VALLEY, Calif. – A fast-moving brush fire dubbed the "Pyrite Fire" broke out Friday evening in Jurupa Valley, forcing evacuations and sending dozens of firefighters into action. The blaze was reported around 5:19 p.m. near Pyrite Street and Granite Hill Drive. Within hours, it grew rapidly in light, dry fuels to an estimated 98 to 140 acres, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department. Authorities issued mandatory evacuation orders for residents in zones JUR-0017 and JUR-0031, with evacuation warnings in JUR-0018. Evacuation centers were opened for displaced families. More than 200 personnel, including engine crews, bulldozers, and two firefighting helicopters, were deployed to the scene. Despite their efforts, officials said the fire was 0% contained as of Friday night. Smoke from the fire was visible for miles, and nearby roadways experienced heavy traffic as residents evacuated. Local residents described tense moments as the fire advanced toward neighborhoods. “The sky turned orange in minutes,” one resident said. “We had to pack up the kids and leave right away.” The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities urged the public to avoid the area to allow emergency crews to continue suppression work.
