TUNIS, TUNISIA - SEP. 3: Activists from many countries around the world who joined the Global Sumud Flotilla stated that they are embarking on this journey for humanity and determined to reach their destination.
The Global Sumud Flotilla has been preparing to set sail from Tunisia as part of its mission to break the Israeli blockade on Gaza, deliver humanitarian aid, and draw global attention to the plight of Palestinians.
The activists, who joined the flotilla from different countries, said that the initiative was not only an aid mission but also a powerful political message to the world.
On Sept. 7, dozens of vessels are expected to set sail from the ports of Catania in Sicily and Tunis, joining the Barcelona fleet in what organizers described as a “powerful, united action” to challenge Israel’s blockade.
The flotilla has received broad international support from lawmakers, unions, and rights advocates.
More than 100 current and former elected officials signed a joint letter urging the creation of a humanitarian corridor to Gaza, protection of the civilian mission, and immediate international action to uphold humanitarian law.
The Israeli genocide in Gaza entered day 700 on Friday, with Israel having killed at least 64,300 Palestinians. The military campaign has devastated the enclave, which is facing famine.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
