GAZA, PALESTINE - SEPTEMBER 6, 2025: Gaza’s Al-Rantisi Children’s Hospital, one of only two nutrition stabilization centers in the city, has reported unprecedented levels of child malnutrition, with doctors warning that Israel’s blockade and deliberate starvation policies are driving children to the brink of death.
Heavily damaged in Israeli airstrikes and later restored, the hospital is now overwhelmed as children suffering from extreme hunger arrive for treatment, while critical shortages of food and medicine push the facility’s limited resources to the breaking point.
Medical staff say ongoing Israeli attacks and strict restrictions on essential supplies have created a catastrophic humanitarian crisis, leaving vulnerable children increasingly reliant on the hospital for life-saving care.
Dr. Ahmed Basal, head of the hospital’s Malnutrition Department, told Anadolu about the critical situation at the facility, highlighting the struggle to cope with the rising number of severely undernourished children.
Since March 2, Israel has closed all Gaza crossings to humanitarian shipments, worsening a famine already confirmed by the UN.
Gaza’s Government Media Office said on Saturday hundreds of thousands of aid trucks have been blocked from entering Gaza, pushing 2.4 million residents, including more than 1 million children, to the brink of famine. It accused Israel of using starvation as a weapon of war in the besieged enclave.
Meanwhile, Gaza’s Health Ministry said that six people, including a child, died of starvation and severe malnutrition in the last 24 hours, bringing famine-related deaths since October 2023 to 382, including 135 children.
The ministry said 104 of the deaths, 20 of them children, occurred after the UN-backed hunger monitoring system Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) formally declared Gaza a famine zone last month.
The Israeli army has continued its genocide in the Gaza Strip, killing at least 64,300 Palestinians since October 2023. The military campaign has devastated the enclave, which is facing famine.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
