BYTOM, POLAND - SEPTEMBER 6: In a vibrant display of cultural pride, the Silesian region of Poland set a new national record on Saturday for the largest gathering of people dressed in traditional regional attire. The event, held in the city of Bytom, saw 586 participants officially establish the record.

The gathering was organized to celebrate and preserve the unique heritage of Silesia, a historical region known for its distinct traditions, dialects, and customs.

Participants, ranging from children to seniors, assembled in colorful costumes, creating a striking visual spectacle that highlighted the community's strong ties to its history.

The traditional costumes of Silesia are as diverse as the region's history, which has been influenced by Polish, German, and Czech cultures. The attire, often passed down through generations, is not a single uniform but varies between specific sub-regions, such as Cieszyn Silesia, Opole Silesia, and Upper Silesia.

A typical ensemble for women, known as the "strój śląski," often includes a brightly colored, floral-patterned skirt, a white embroidered blouse, a fitted velvet or wool vest, and an ornate headscarf or wreath of flowers, depending on the wearer's marital status and the specific occasion.

Men's traditional costume generally consists of dark blue trousers, often decorated with subtle embroidery, a white shirt, a wide leather belt, and a dark vest or jacket. Footwear for both men and women traditionally includes high leather boots.
