This is the shocking moment a taxi driver and a motorcyclist fought in a road rage incident in Thailand.

The pair came to blows after the cabbie allegedly drove over the rider's foot at a traffic light in Bangkok on September 3.

Footage shows the younger motorcycle rider trying to charge at the cabbie as security guards and bystanders restrain them.

They exchanged insults but later parted ways without further incident.

Onlooker Thanachot said: ‘The motorcyclist had stopped next to the taxi. When the traffic light turned green and cars started moving, the taxi drove over the motorcyclist's foot.

‘He shouted that the taxi had run over his foot, then started hitting the car and pounding on the window, but the taxi still wouldn't move — it kept crushing his foot.

‘After about five minutes, once the rider finally managed to pull free from the wheel, the taxi driver got out of the car and the two began fighting.

‘The taxi driver didn't apologise, just said, 'How would I know?' And then, as seen in the clip, they started brawling.'

Road rage is a common problem in Thailand, where aggressive driving and a lack of enforcement often lead to violent confrontations on the roads.

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
