Gaza health unions call for safe arrival of Global Sumud Flotilla
SHOTLIST: GAZA, PALESTINE (SEPT. 8, 2025) (ANADOLU – ACCESS ALL) 1. SPOKESPERSON FOR AL-AQSA MARTYRS HOSPITAL, DR HALIL DAKRAN, GIVING PRESS STATEMENT (Arabic)GAZA, PALESTINE - SEPT. 8, 2025: Health unions in Gaza urged the international community and relevant organizations on Monday, Sept. 8, to facilitate the smooth arrival of Global Sumud Flotilla, which carries aid supplies to the blockaded enclave. Dr. Halil Dakran from Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, speaking on behalf of the health unions, recalled that Gaza has endured a severe blockade for 18 years and described the fleet as a victory for the conscience of humanity. The Global Sumud Flotilla is an international humanitarian initiative launched in July 2025, consisting of more than 50 vessels from ports like Barcelona, aimed at breaking Israel's naval blockade of the Gaza Strip. Its primary goal is to deliver essential aid, such as food, medicine and supplies to Gaza, where famine conditions have been officially declared. Nearly 20 ships departed Barcelona late last month as part of the Global Sumud Flotilla, followed by another convoy from Genoa, Italy, earlier this week. A third flotilla was scheduled to sail from Tunisia on Wednesday before continuing toward Gaza to break the choking siege.
