12:30 hrs. SCCC (Schuylkill County Communications Center) dispatched for a working structure fire at 1020 Walnut Street, Ashland with flames from “C” side. Prior to arrival Fire department officers confirmed a working fire upgrading to a 2nd then 3rd alarm with special request for additional truck companies be added to the box as this was a rowhome type structure fire.One resident was slightly injured as she assisted others out of the homes prior to the fire departments arrival. Ashland Police officers confirmed hearing 2 explosions prior to the collapse of the “C” side of the structure.At least six master streams were used to bring this incident under control in approximately a 2 hour time span. Ashland Fire Chief Philip Groody eventually assumed command and confirmed that the fire started in the rear of 1016-1018 Walnut Street, Ashland. While this fire remains under investigation early reports indicate the fire may have started in the vicinity of the electrical meter base.
