12:30 hrs. SCCC (Schuylkill County Communications Center) dispatched for a working structure fire at 1020 Walnut Street, Ashland with flames from “C” side. Prior to arrival Fire department officers confirmed a working fire upgrading to a 2nd then 3rd alarm with special request for additional truck companies be added to the box as this was a rowhome type structure fire.One resident was slightly injured as she assisted others out of the homes prior to the fire departments arrival. Ashland Police officers confirmed hearing 2 explosions prior to the collapse of the “C” side of the structure.At least six master streams were used to bring this incident under control in approximately a 2 hour time span. Ashland Fire Chief Philip Groody eventually assumed command and confirmed that the fire started in the rear of 1016-1018 Walnut Street, Ashland. While this fire remains under investigation early reports indicate the fire may have started in the vicinity of the electrical meter base. This includes thermal video imaging and readings.The businesses and citizens provided food and beverage to those responding to this incident and include but may not be limited to May’s Drive-In Restaurant.Represented by newsflare.com
