Residents gathered to witness the lunar eclipse in northern Thailand.

Footage shows the blood moon glowing with a brick-orange hue, lighting up the skies in Chiang Mai on September 7.

Authorities said this was the first lunar eclipse visible in the country in three years, with the last one occurring in 2022. The celestial event was visible from Australia, across Asia, and into western Europe.

The phenomenon coincided with the Sib Song Peng festival, when residents invited Buddhist monks to conduct religious ceremonies at night.

While eclipses were historically surrounded by superstition, modern science explains them as natural astronomical alignments of the Earth, Sun, and Moon, a breathtaking reminder of cosmic order rather than an omen.

The eclipse reportedly lasted for 82 minutes, making it one of the longest total lunar eclipses in the last decade.

The phenomenon was caused by Earth's atmosphere filtering and bending sunlight. Shorter wavelengths are scattered, while longer red wavelengths pass through, casting a reddish tint on the moon.

The next total lunar eclipse will occur on March 3 next year and will be visible across Asia, Australia, the Pacific Islands, and the Americas. A partial lunar eclipse is expected on August 27 to 28, visible from the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Western Asia.
