Truck crashes into train barrier on level crossing in Vietnam
A truck driver crashed into a traffic barrier when he allegedly ignored warning signs at a level crossing in Vietnam.
CCTV footage shows the vehicle ploughing through the automatic barriers at the Cam Giang - Cao Xa railway in Haiphong, on September 3.
The motorist emerged unscathed from the near miss and was seen fleeing the scene.
Authorities said a motorist, Pham Thi Nga, 41, was injured when the remaining faulty barrier crashed down on her as she was passing through. She suffered a broken ear cartilage and an injury that required five stitches.
Officials have identified the driver through the truck's licence plate, which was visible on security footage.
Dang Hong Bac, Deputy Head of the Railway Traffic Safety and Security Department, said: 'The situation of vehicles deliberately violating level crossing warning signals, breaking automatic or guarded barriers, remains complicated, potentially threatening the safety of trains and road users, and causing significant property damage.
'According to data, in the first eight months of the year, the entire railway line recorded 201 cases of cars and motorbikes violating level crossing signals for both automatic and guarded barriers.'
He added that five motorcyclists have been killed at automatic level crossings in the past eight months after attempting to beat the red light.
