Pedestrian rescued after falling into 15-metre deep wastewater pit in Bangkok

A pedestrian was rescued after accidentally falling into a 15-metre wastewater pit in Bangkok.

The local, believed to be between 35 and 40 years old, was discovered at the bottom of the sludge-slicked hole at a sewage treatment facility on August 30.

He was wearing a black shirt and shorts, and was conscious but unable to stand.

Firefighters responded to the scene after receiving a report at 8:49 pm local time. They abseilled down the pit and strapped him into a foldable stretcher before hoisting him to safety.

The man was later taken to Siriraj Hospital for treatment.

A Bang Khun Non Fire Station spokesman said: 'We will question him to find why he was there and how he ended up trapped in the pit.'
