Footage from Kathmandu show protesters torching political party offices and storming the Federal Parliament, as Nepal’s Gen Z–led uprising escalates dramatically.

Demonstrators also entered Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s office and set his Balkot residence on fire. Hours later, facing cabinet resignations and mounting public fury, Oli announced his resignation.

The protests, initially sparked by a controversial social media ban, have grown into a broader movement against corruption and political stagnation. At least 19 people have been killed and over 100 injured in clashes with security forces.

With Oli stepping down, President Ram Chandra Poudel has accepted his resignation and begun consultations to form a new government. Authorities have since lifted the social media ban, but curfews remain in place across the capital.

The youth-led demonstrations, now dubbed the “Gen Z protests,” signal a deep demand for accountability and systemic change.
