Germany: Chinese NEV sales keep robust growth momentum in Europe
Storyline: Sales of Chinese new energy vehicles (NEVs) continue to maintain a strong momentum in the European market, with data from researcher Dataforce highlighting that Chinese pure electric vehicle brands have captured a 9.9 percent European market share in July. According to Dataforce, Chinese brands hold a 5.3 percent share of the entire European automotive market in July, marking the third consecutive month that this figure has exceeded the 5 percent threshold. The strong performance has prompted Chinese automakers to accelerate their expansion into the European market. At this year's IAA Mobility show in Munich, Germany, 116 Chinese companies were among the 748 exhibitors, setting a new record compared to the 70 Chinese exhibitors in 2023. Their exhibits span the full automotive supply chain, including new energy vehicles (NEVs), e-powertrain systems, and intelligent software and hardware solutions. The 2025 IAA Mobility show, one of the world's largest mobility trade fairs and Europe's leading auto industry gathering, kicked off with Media Day on Monday and opened to the public from Sept 9 to 14. Some Chinese exhibitors say that automotive industries in China and Europe are evolving from competition to integration, contributing to driving innovative breakthroughs in global mobility with synergy. "China has the largest market and the broadest customer base in the world, which prompts Chinese automakers to focus on user needs and continuously meet diverse demands with high-value innovations. It can be said that in technological innovations such as new energy and intelligent connectivity, Chinese automakers have established a globally leading competitive edge," said Feng Xingya, chairman of China's Guangzhou Automobile Group. Others say in-depth cooperation with European partners has delivered tangible benefits, expediting their exploration of the European market. Zhu Jiangming, founder and chairman of China's Leapmotor Technology, said the company's deepening collaboration with multinational auto firm Stellantis has enabled it to establish over 640 service outlets across Europe, significantly boosting the company's Europe sales in the first half of this year. "We were able to set up a network of 1,700 overseas dealer channels in a very short time. We can also supply certain components to Stellantis. In addition to whole vehicles, we can generate revenue from parts and components," said Zhu. The automotive industry, a highlight and benchmark of China-EU economic and trade cooperation, has always been a key area for both sides to pursue mutual prosperity, said a participant from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
