A pet owner rescued a cat after its head became stuck under a rolling shutter at a jewellery store.

CCTV footage shows the grey feline entering the shop just as its unsuspecting owner exited the building in Fujian, China.

The cat appears visibly confused as it stands in the doorway while the metal barrier closes on July 6.

The heavy shutter then pinned its head as it tried to escape the shop. The hapless animal struggled, unable to free itself.

Moments later, the shopkeeper's frantic wife noticed their pet and immediately pressed the button to lift the shutter.

In tears at the sight, she rushed to open the door and gently grabbed the cat to check if it was okay.

She then comforted the animal, petting it to calm it down.

They said the cat did not sustain any injuries from the incident.
