Quick-thinking motorcycle rider jumps onto car bonnet to avoid being crushed
This is the dramatic moment a quick-thinking motorcycle rider jumped onto a car bonnet to avoid being crushed.
The motorist was manoeuvreing along the road when a black sedan struck him from behind as he attempted a U-turn in Songkhla, Thailand.
Footage shows the vehicle ramming the helmeted man on August 24. The impact forced his bike forward, slamming it into a white parked car as he narrowly avoided being crushed between the two vehicles.
Visibly shaken, he quickly stood up and crossed the motorway to the other side, where residents gathered to check on him.
Local media reported that the man suffered only minor bruises, though his motorbike was heavily damaged.
Onlookers said: 'The driver of the car appeared to be intoxicated and was speaking incoherently. '
Police later arrived to investigate the incident.
Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.
Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
