China: Chinese VP calls for global green energy transition push at int'l conference
Chinese Vice President Han Zheng on Tuesday made a four-point proposal on global energy development, ranging from promoting a green and low-carbon transition and technological innovation to driving sustainable development and deepening resources and industrial capacity cooperation. Speaking at the 2025 Global Energy Interconnection Conference in Beijing, Han said the global energy system is undergoing profound changes, while noting that China has long been a committed practitioner of and contributor to green development. First, Han called on jointly promoting a green and low-carbon transition. He called for intensifying collaboration in renewable energy power generation, grid interconnection and smart energy, as well as promoting the effective implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement. Second, the vice president called on jointly promoting technological innovation. He emphasized the importance of joint research and development of technologies for clean energy use, and the integration of the power sector with modern information, new materials and advanced manufacturing technologies. Third, he called on pushing for sustainable development. Efforts should also be made to strengthen cooperation on energy accessibility to help developing countries enhance their capacity for ensuring energy security, Han said. Fourth, Han called on deepening resources and industrial capacity cooperation. He proposed to advance cross-border and cross-regional energy infrastructure projects to promote complementary cooperation and mutual benefits. Ahead of the conference, Han visited the exhibition showcasing the achievements and interacted with the participants. The conference, running from Monday to Wednesday, has attracted nearly 1,000 participants from over 100 countries and international organizations, including the United Nations.
