GUO'S LAWYER, JAIME BARRIENTOS SPEAKING TO REPORTERS (Spanish) SANTIAGO, CHILE - SEPT. 9: Pilot and influencer Ethan Guo was released on Tuesday, Sept. 9, after a Chilean court approved a deal to drop the case against him in exchange for a $30,000 donation to the Nuestros Hijos Foundation, which provides rehabilitation services for children recovering from cancer. Guo had been detained since June 28 for allegedly landing his small plane without authorization on King George Island, a territory in Antarctica claimed by Chile. Speaking at the foundation in Santiago, Guo said being held for more than two months was challenging but also an interesting experience. Jaime Barrientos, his lawyer, said the agreement was not a punishment, explaining that the funds came from donations raised through Guo’s cancer awareness campaign.
