US: Massive Dust Devil Spins Across Oklahoma Landscape
El Reno, United States - September 08, 2025 Video filmed by Amelia Urquhart on September 8, 2025, at 3:25 PM CDT shows a massive dust devil swirling just south of Interstate 40 at mile markers 118 to 119. The footage captures the intense column of rotating air near El Reno, a phenomenon often seen in Oklahoma’s flat terrain under strong sunlight. Dust devils typically occur in the late morning and early afternoon, forming between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Although less destructive than tornadoes, these events can still cause harm. A past case in Coconino County, Arizona, on September 14, 2000, demonstrated the dangers when a dust devil led to property damage and injuries. The appearance of this dust devil once again underscores Oklahoma’s exposure to severe weather events that regularly feature in local forecasts and reports. Amelia Urquhart described the moment directly: “Huge dust devil west of El Reno, Oklahoma at 3:25 PM CDT, just south of I-40 at mile markers 118-119.”
